rat /rAt/ n.老鼠，不忠实的人（like a rat in a hole 像洞中之鼠，
喻陷于绝境）; vi. 背叛,背信（常与on连用），捕鼠（The dog went ratting 狗去捉老鼠）；[习语]smell a rat觉得可疑。
fat / fAt/ n.脂肪，油脂；adj. 肥大的， 费用巨大的 a fat price(很大的代价）; vi长肥(fatted,,fatting)；get fat 发胖;[习语] The fat is in the fire(事情弄得不可收拾了)。
vat /vAt/ n.. 大桶 大缸（rotting vat发酵瓮）；vt.把...装入大桶(vatted,vatting）；VAT(大写)增值税, 附加价值税Price includes VAT(价格包括税额)[商业用语]。

3.J：记忆小窍门
rat, r很像老鼠的一屡胡须；
fat，f和“肥”拼音fei第一个字母相同；
vat，v很像现实生活中的“缸”的形状；
salt，salt来自海滩，读音似“扫它”，扫起来装回家吃；
bat，b像球拍，蝙蝠像羽毛球飞来飞去，故二者写法一样；
cat， c很像猫的一只半睡半醒的眼睛在看；
hat， 读音似"害他”，炎热的夏天让人戴礼帽，确实是“害他” ;
mat，起首字母ma读音似“麦”，在古代，垫子里装的是小麦杆，故mat就是垫子。

mate /meit/ n.配偶，配对物，伙伴，助手，对手； vt.使成对，使符合，使一致；vi.结伴mate with him（和他做朋友），结婚。
date /deit/ n.日期, 日子，年代，约会，约会的对象，枣honey date（蜜枣）；vt.注明...日期date your letters.（在你的信上注明日期），确定...年代，和...约会；vi. 约会，过时，注日期；[习语]blind date(由第三者安排的男女初次会面)，date of validity（有效日期）。

3.J：记忆小窍门
mate， m由两个非常亲密的n组成，故mate为伙伴。
date， 美好的日期大多需要等待（待它）date 。
gate， g像不像大门口拴着的一只狗？
late， 因为作业太多，过度劳累(lei)才迟到的。
fate， 读音似“飞特”，对遇难者来说是9.11是“飞”来之祸，有人认为这也是“命运”。
hate， hate和恨（hen）发音很相似。
